View this post on InstagramDid you know that Bali has a celebration (sorta their New Years thing) called Nyepi? Thereโs a lot of lead up to this occasion. Locals spend months creating these giant demon sculptures. The night before Nyepi Day everyone parades around the giant sculptures and makes lots of noise to try and grab the attention of bad spirits and lure them out. The next day (Nyepi day) all of the service everywhere is out all of the lights everything. You canโt go outside everyone stays inside and is quiet so that when the bad spirits are out they donโt see anyone there and assume that the island is abandoned. This is done in hopes that for the rest of the year the bad spirits leave the island alone. When I went to Bali I had no idea about this day but it turned out I was there during Nyepi and got to witness it first hand. Such a unique cultural experience!! This pic is from trying to kill time on Nyepi day and enjoying the quiet. Swipe for the night before!
